Mental Health & Health Care

If elected, the Greens have committed to: 

​

  • Establish a national mental health strategy and a suicide prevention strategy (Green Platform)
     

  • Invest in mental health services and in youth mental health (Green Platform)
     

  • Increase investments in Indigenous-led mental health (Green Platform)
     

  • Increase funding to provinces to prioritize the expansion of mental health and rehabilitation services (CTV)
     

  • Redirect Health Canada’s mandate to focus on mental health and addictions, among other key items (CTV)
     

  • Create an overarching national mental health strategy to address the ties between mental wellness and work productivity (CTV)

The state of our mental health is connected to what’s going on in the world around us. We can be hugely affected by things like our working conditions, our ability to make rent, intergenerational trauma, or the security of our planet.

>> Climate

  • Protect and restore natural carbon sinks (Green Platform)
     

  • Develop a national renewable energy electricity grid (Green Platform)
     

  • Cut greenhouse gas emissions to 60% below 2005 levels by the end of the decade using an annual carbon tax increase (Toronto Star, CBC)

  • Implement tariffs on certain imports (CTV)
     

  • Provide investments in renewable energy (CTV)
     

  • End all fossil fuel subsidies (CTV)

  • Call for buildings that create greenhouse gases to be retrofitted to produce more energy than they use (CTV)
